Most workers need to save more for retirement

A recent survey found that many workers are not saving enough for retirement and are lacking retirement planning. The survey of workers between the ages of 40 and 73 found most do not have enough savings to cover their income needs in retirement. The survey found that 51% of the respondents had saved less than $50,000 and just 20% had more than $500,000. One quarter of respondents had no savings at all. Most (57%) were saving less than 10% of income. Lack of planning was widespread, the report noted. Only 40% of respondents said they have tried to calculate how much they will need to meet their income needs in retirement.
